Dear Montrose and Olathe Staff,

We are pleased to announce that we completed the Contract Negotiations for the upcoming 2017-2018 School Year. Using our “Interest-Based Solutions” negotiating system, the Uncompahgre Valley Education Association and Montrose County School District worked as a team to refine contract language, develop a district wide compensation package, as well as addressed some issues facing the schools. The entire team is pleased about the work we were able to complete during the three days of working together this year. We met for a half of a day in November to work on language issues within the Master Contract.  In addition, we met again for two days in May and wrapped up contract language and completed the compensation package.  We tackled many very important and complicated issues, as you will see as you read below.

The Tentative Agreement must be ratified by the MCSD Board of Education and UVEA membership. The UVEA will ratify via Survey Monkey by Friday, May 26th.  The recommended agreement is scheduled for board discussion and adoption at the June 13th, 2017 Board meeting.

Highlights of our work include:

  1. Addendum B and C: Clock hours: Tentative Agreement
    1. Change due date to January 15th
  2. Article 1: Definitions: Tentative Agreement
    1. Added part-time definition
  3. Article 4: Negotiations Procedure: Tentative Agreement
  4. Article 19: Duties: Tentative Agreement
    1. Add Article 19-3: ESP language
  5. Compensation Package to include:
    1. Education for all employees (includes all eligible lane changes and clock hours acquired over the past three years)
    2. A .5% increase to the 2017-2018 salary schedules
    3. One (1) “Step” to all eligible employees
    4. 2% overall increase to insurance split 50% Employee/50% Employer
    5. Based on final PPOR and positive growth, the monies will be split as 50% “stipend” for eligible employees/50% district operations.  The stipend portion will be split evenly as “full time” = full share / “part-time” (under 4 hours) = half share.
